Hurricane Season in Southwest Florida

SWFL pool owners face one of the most active hurricane corridors in the United States. Between June and November, tropical systems regularly threaten Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Sanibel, and the Gulf Coast — and every storm brings the same aftermath: debris-filled pools, contaminated water, damaged equipment, and disrupted chemistry that can swing from crystal-clear to green swamp in 48 hours.

The difference between a quick recovery and a costly rebuild is preparation and speed. Pool Armor Pros offers both pre-storm prep (to protect your pool before a named storm) and priority post-storm cleanup (to restore your pool fast after impact). Book before hurricane season and you lock in protected pricing and priority response.

Pre-Storm Prep vs. Post-Storm Only

Pre-booking before hurricane season delivers real savings, faster response, and less stress. Here’s the breakdown.

❌ Post-Storm Only (Reactive)

  • General emergency queue — may wait 5–10+ days after landfall
  • Pricing is market-rate during demand spikes
  • No protection before the storm
  • Equipment damage may go unnoticed until next weekly visit
  • Higher likelihood of algae bloom before service

✅ Pre-Storm Prep + Priority Response

  • 48–72 hour priority response after safe access
  • Locked-in pricing — no demand surcharges
  • Pre-storm prep protects your pool before landfall
  • Photo documentation before & after for insurance
  • Seasonal residents: one less thing to worry about from up north

Storm Clean-Out FAQ

Straight answers about response time, pricing, and what to expect after a storm.

How much does post-storm pool cleanup cost?
Cape Coral storm cleanup pricing starts at $255 for Basic Storm (1–2 visits, light debris), $510 for Advanced Storm (2–3 visits — most common post-storm tier), $945 for Hurricane Storm (3–4 visits, heavy debris), and $1,690 for Complete Drain & Restart (4 visits including water truck refill). All standard chemicals are included. Outer cities are priced per the zone table — Fort Myers/Estero/Bonita +$15, Naples/Port Charlotte/Punta Gorda/North Port +$25, Sanibel/Captiva +$55.
How fast can you respond after a storm or hurricane?
Most post-storm visits happen within 48–72 hours of safe access. Dispatch order is: (1) existing weekly clients first, then (2) pre-booked response contracts, then (3) general emergency requests. After a major hurricane, general queue requests can wait 5–10+ days. Booking weekly service or a pre-storm prep contract before hurricane season is the only way to guarantee priority response.
Are weekly pool clients prioritized after storms?
Yes. Existing weekly pool service clients receive first priority dispatch after every storm event, ahead of all other requests. This is one of the major reasons SWFL homeowners enroll in weekly service before hurricane season — even if you’d otherwise self-maintain, the storm priority alone often justifies a weekly service plan ($115/mo Cape Coral starting price).
Do you offer pre-storm pool prep?
Yes. Pre-storm prep is a 30–45 minute visit before a named storm makes landfall. We remove loose debris, secure equipment against flooding, shock the pool for algae prevention, document condition with photos, and lock in priority post-storm response. Especially valuable for seasonal residents who can’t coordinate from up north. Request pre-storm prep pricing — recommended booking by April–May before hurricane season starts.
Will I need to drain my pool after a hurricane?
In most cases, no. The Basic, Advanced, and Hurricane Storm tiers all use vacuum, shock, clarifier, filter cleaning, and partial drains when needed — your existing water stays. A complete drain & restart is only required for severe cases: saltwater flooding (storm surge into the pool), extreme contamination (sewage, oil), or when chemistry is impossible to balance after multiple attempts. Complete Drain & Restart starts at $1,690 and includes a water truck refill in the all-in price.
What if my pool only had heavy rain — not a hurricane?
Heavy rain overflow events typically fall under Basic Storm ($255) or Advanced Storm ($510) tiers, depending on debris volume and chemistry impact. Pool overflowed but stayed mostly clean? Basic Storm. Heavy debris, brown water, or chemistry crashed? Advanced Storm. We assess on-site and match the right tier. For algae blooms triggered by storm-disrupted chemistry, see our Green-to-Clean recovery service.
Do you document storm damage for insurance claims?
Yes. Every storm visit includes before, during, and after photos uploaded to your customer portal — useful documentation for insurance claims, HOA reporting, or warranty disputes. We also inspect pump, filter, salt cell, and plumbing for storm damage and document any repair needs. For major equipment damage, we provide a separate repair quote and can coordinate with your insurance adjuster on request.
What’s the difference between storm cleanup and green-to-clean?
Storm cleanup handles the full post-storm scope — debris removal, equipment inspection, water restoration, and chemistry reset. Tiered by storm severity. Green-to-clean is targeted algae recovery — for pools that turned green from a chlorine drop, equipment failure, or skipped maintenance. If your pool is debris-filled AND green, we run a storm cleanup first, then assess whether green-to-clean is also needed. Most well-prepped pools just need storm cleanup; the green-to-clean upgrade is rare in that case.
Do you do storm cleanup on Sanibel, Captiva, and outer SWFL areas?
Yes. Pool Armor Pros provides post-storm pool response across all of SWFL including Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Punta Gorda, Port Charlotte, Sanibel, Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, and North Port. Sanibel/Captiva response may have delays of 24–48 hours after major hurricanes until causeway and bridge access is restored — we update existing clients as soon as access is confirmed.
