Paver Re-Sanding in Cape Coral & Southwest Florida

Stop weeds. Lock pavers. Prep for sealing. Professional joint sand replacement using polymeric or standard sand — all-in starting at $175, sand included. Bundle wash + re-sand + seal and save 15%.

Why Florida Pavers Lose Their Joint Sand

Cape Coral pavers face constant assault on the one thing holding them together: their joints. Heavy summer rain washes sand out. Irrigation systems erode it daily. Pool overflow saturates it. Pressure washing — even pro-grade — strips a thin layer with every cycle. Over 2–3 years, joints visibly drop, weeds find footing, ants tunnel up, and pavers start to shift.

Re-sanding restores that structural foundation. Fresh sand is brushed deep into the joints, compacted, and topped off so your pavers lock back together. The surface looks finished again, weeds are starved out, and the joints are ready for sealing. At Pool Armor Pros, we offer both standard joint sand and premium polymeric sand — and we’ll tell you which is right for your specific paver system.

6 Signs Your Pavers Need Re-Sanding

📏 Visible Joint Depth Drop

If you can see more than 1/4″ of joint depth below the paver surface, it’s time. Sand should sit flush.

🌱 Weed Growth in Joints

Weeds and grass sprouting between pavers means the joints are too shallow to suppress seeds.

🐜 Ant Hills Pushing Up

Ants tunnel through eroded joints and push displaced sand to the surface. A clear sign joints are loose.

🪨 Wobbling or Shifting Pavers

If pavers move or click underfoot, the joint sand is too thin to lock them in place. Re-sanding restores stability.

🌧️ Erosion Near Downspouts

Heavy rain drainage points wear joints faster. These zones often need re-sanding before the rest of the surface.

🏊 Pool Overflow Damage

Saltwater overflow from pools accelerates joint erosion on lanais. Pool decks typically need re-sanding every 2–3 years.

Standard sand vs. polymeric sand — which is right for you? Polymeric sand costs more upfront but lasts 3–5 years vs. 1–2 for standard sand, and dramatically reduces weeds and ants. We recommend polymeric for driveways and pool decks. Standard sand can be the right call on certain paver systems or where natural water drainage matters. Paver Re-Sanding FAQ

Straight answers about pricing, sand types, and what to expect.

How much does paver re-sanding cost in Cape Coral?
Paver re-sanding in Cape Coral is priced all-in with premium joint sand included — no separate material charge. Standard joint sand starts at $175 minimum ($0.75/sqft); polymeric sand starts at $200 minimum ($0.90/sqft). For example, a 400 sqft surface runs about $300 standard or $360 polymeric; 700 sqft about $525 / $630; 1,000 sqft about $750 / $900. See the pricing table above for all sizes.
Should I use standard or polymeric joint sand?
Polymeric sand is the better choice for SWFL in most cases. It hardens when water-activated, locks pavers in place, prevents ant colonies, and dramatically reduces weed growth for 3–5 years. Standard joint sand is cheaper and allows natural drainage, which can be preferred on certain paver systems or where water flow is critical. We recommend polymeric for driveways and pool decks, and assess each lanai or walkway individually during the free quote.
How long does polymeric sand last in Florida?
In SWFL, properly installed polymeric sand typically lasts 3–5 years on driveways and 4–7 years on lanais and pool decks. Heavy rain, irrigation runoff, and pressure washing all gradually erode joint sand. We recommend an annual inspection and a re-sand whenever joints visibly drop more than 1/4″ below the paver surface.
What are the signs my pavers need re-sanding?
Common signs include: visible joint depth drop (joints sitting noticeably below the paver surface), weed growth between pavers, ant hills pushing sand up, pavers wobbling or shifting underfoot, and visible erosion near downspouts or pool overflow. If you can see more than 1/4″ of joint depth, it’s time to re-sand. See the 6 signs section above for details.
Do I need to clean my pavers before re-sanding?
Yes. Clean joints are essential for proper sand adhesion and compaction. Dirty or weed-filled joints cause new sand to settle improperly, leading to early failure. We recommend bundling paver cleaning with re-sanding in the same visit. When you book paver wash + re-sand + seal together, you save 15% on the combined bundle through our Full Restoration package.
Can re-sanding stop weeds permanently?
Polymeric sand dramatically reduces weed growth but doesn’t eliminate it permanently. Weeds typically grow from seeds that land on top of the sand and root downward. Polymeric sand prevents most weed growth for 3–5 years, after which the surface naturally erodes and allows new seeds to take hold. Annual inspection and a re-sand every 3–5 years keeps weed pressure minimal.
Should I re-sand before sealing pavers?
Yes, almost always. Sealer bonds to both the paver surface AND the joint sand. If joints are eroded, sealer will run into the gaps and your pavers will shift or sprout weeds. We strongly recommend re-sanding before any sealing application. Our Full Restoration bundle includes wash + re-sand + two-coat seal in one visit with a 15% bundle discount. See our Paver Sealing page for details.
